Your doctor may write a letter to the appropriate hospital department for referral. In urgent cases she/he may arrange an immediate appointment by telephone. If you need to see another of the health workers such as the counsellor, dietician or the district nurse the doctor can arrange this. In some cases, referrals can be sent electronically.
We would ask your consent to release your medical record when we refer to some services.
This means that the consultant you are referred to can assess the urgency of your medical problem. It may save you having to have tests and results as they will be able to see any you have recently had performed at the surgery. This also means that you do not have to repeat your story.
